Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast

Held each July in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast is one of New York’s oldest and most powerful neighborhood traditions. Known for the famous Dancing of the Giglio, a nearly 4 ton heavy and 70 foot tall sculpture towering over the streets that is carried on the shoulders of men. It’s a celebration of faith, family, food, and generations of Italian-American culture.

I’ve been documenting the festival on and off for the past few years—drawn to the energy, the devotion and the way the streets transform into a living history.
